Lando Norris edged out team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix. The British racer, who took the points lead from Piastri by one point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, topped the Australian by a mere 0.023s. Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before the sprint shootout due at 6:30 PM GMT. Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in realistic title contention, sitting with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, finished in 17th position as his team followed a alternative strategy. His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to crash, if briefly, when he rotated at Turn Four during the early running. The Japanese lost control over the curbs on exit before spinning across the escape zone, and was lucky to avoid just a light touch of the wall. The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
