This winter transfer market is always a period of significant speculation and possible major deals. Several high-profile stars find themselves connected to transfers away from their present clubs. We examine some of the key names who are poised to be on the move this month.

Antoine Semenyo

Although Ghana's inability to qualify for the AFCON, this has left the forward available, reports suggest a significant move is close. The Bournemouth attacker has a deal with a £65 million release clause applicable for a two-week period at the start of the month. Latest reports suggest Manchester City are now the frontrunners for his signature. Other suitors such as Chelsea and Tottenham reportedly have moved on to alternative targets, leaving teams such as Liverpool or Manchester United to make a late bid.

M. Guéhi

This English centre-back has impress for Crystal Palace despite a summer move to Liverpool collapsing. As his contract due to run out in the close season, January is the club's last opportunity to obtain a transfer fee for their captain. Numerous elite sides, such as City and multiple continental powerhouses including Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, reportedly hold an interest. Yet, a winter exit is considered difficult, particularly given the manager's dependence on the player.

B. Johnson

This Welsh winger has found first-team opportunities hard to come by at Spurs this campaign. Although being the side's top scorer last season, he has started only a small number of Premier League games. It is understood the North London outfit is open to a sale for the right price, believed to be in the region of forty million pounds. Bournemouth are currently at the front of the queue, with Aston Villa, Brentford, and Crystal Palace additionally showing an interest.

R. Neves

This Portuguese playmaker might be set for a comeback to the English top flight following a spell in the Saudi Pro League. Furthermore, there are suggestions from Spanish media that he would be prepared to accept a reduced salary for a switch to Real Madrid.

Marc-André ter Stegen

This experienced Germany goalkeeper finds himself as the third option at Barça under new manager Flick. After fallen out of favour and had an operation, a January departure looks increasingly likely. Villa were initially mentioned as a possible suitor, but that option now appears unlikely. Instead, interest from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are thought to be expressing curiosity in the 33-year-old.

This prolific English striker has kept finding the net regularly in the Middle East. A return to the Premier League could enhance his fading hopes of being in the national World Cup. But, arranging a deal presents significant hurdles. Al-Ahli do not wish to part with him, and his alleged huge salary make any agreement complicated. Kenan Yildiz

This highly-rated Turkish forward has been in fine form for Juventus this season. As his current deal running down, many Premier League clubs – including Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham – are monitoring the situation. Juventus are eager to tie down the youngster to a lengthy agreement but are in a race to keep one of the continent's most promising prospects.

Kees Smit

This much-admired Netherlands teenage midfielder has drawn comparisons to a Belgian superstar for his style of play. After starring at the U19 Euros, he has broken into the AZ Alkmaar first team. The 19-year-old is heavily expected to complete a major transfer this month. Newcastle United are believed to be frontrunners, but could face stiff competition from the Spanish champions for a signing valued at approximately twenty-two million pounds.
